Ever since I started diving at age fourteen, I have had a fascination
with Great White Sharks, (Carcharodon carcharias). Have
you ever been to an aquarium and viewed a great white shark in an
exhibit? The answer is most certainly no, since they have never
been able to be kept alive outside of their natural habitat. In
October I had an opportunity to learn more about these fascinating
creatures by diving, studying and documenting them in their natural
environment. My Community of Practice was well represented on the
expedition to Guadalupe Island Mexico. It included three of my past
students many friends, marine and underwater imaging experts in
this unique discipline. I am pretty damn fortunate...
This form of diving represents my preferred concept of eco-tourism
and environmental education. Humans get in the cage and view wild
animals in their habitat, instead of capturing them for us to view
in zoo cages and exhibits.
Enjoy my photos. I shot a Nikonos V in natural light using a 15
and 20 mm lens. More multimedia and results of my study are coming
soon. This report is a work "in-progress".
