Bob & Ruth are 80!!-
My in-laws are two of the most amazing people in the world.
They have been an inspiration and role models to me ever since I
met them. They turned 80 years young this April.
They are a part of the "greatest generation" that Tom Brokaw
wrote about in his book. I don't know if Brokaw interviewed them,
but he certainly captured what their life has stood for. Bob went
off to war as a young man during World War II and then again in Korea
while Ruth was at home with the kids. Together, they have built a
life of love for their family and community. They are both natives
of Santa Barbara.
To know Bob Kallman is to know what the salt of the earth really
is. If you look up integrity in the dictionary, you will likely see
his picture. Bob has always been a leader in the community, nation
and in his family. The really cool thing about him is that he does
this so quietly, and effectively. He is a humble yet strong man.
Many men stand in awe of him as a person.
When faced with difficult
times in life, many ask "What would Jesus do?" (WWJD..) I simply
ask: "What would Bob do??" When I get that answer- I know it is not
only the right one, but the best one.
Ruth has a heart of gold and a spirit as tough as nails. If you
want to know where Carol gets her optimism, strength and good looks,
look no further than her Mom. People say that your mother-in-law
is the best predictor of what your wife will be like when she is
older. I guess that is why I am so excited about growing old
with Carol... :-) Ruth's beauty is not just skin deep though. She
has a passion for her family and friends that is unwavering and
without compromise. With Ruth you not only will get an opinion,
you will get the truth and the warmest smile you are not likely
to soon forget. Eternal optimism best describes Ruth.
I can rely on Bob & Ruth for anything. They have been pillars
in my life as well as for Carol and the kids. I love them a lot.
